Nanotechnology (nanotech) is an advanced technology involving the creating and use of particles so small that the unit of measurement is the nanometre (one billionth of a metre). Nanotechnology has been used extensively in the fields of computer science, medicine and engineering. Research in the medical field indicates nanotechnology can help with the healing and repair of skin. In the cosmetic field, the theory is that these smaller particles are more readily absorbed into the skin, therefore repairing damage more easily and efficiently. And that is exactly what opponents of nanotechnology are concerned with – Ingredients penetrating further into the skin and interfering with the skin’s metabolic processes. Nanotechnology is the subject of much research and offers potential benefits in the future, in many revolutionary ways, both for medicinal purposes and for technological use. Public debate on nanotechnology has raised questions regarding the potential hazard to the environment and to human health. However, the technology, and its safe use in consumer products, is constantly under review by regulatory bodies worldwide. Because of the uncertainty surrounding “nano particles”, to date, both Environ® Skincare and Jane Iredale Mineral Cosmetics have made a conscious decision not to use these particular ingredients, as the safety of their customers is paramount. ************************************* ANNUAL LEAVE The Clinic will be closed from Monday 9th August and reopen Thursday 19th August at 10.00am. Please check your AVST moisturiser supplies prior to this and stock up if you need to, because as we know, there is no warning that the pump is getting low! As a rule of thumb your moisturiser should last 2.5 - 3 months when you are using it day and night (although it may not go as far in the winter).
